Subject:Need some help!
Hi Everybody. I just created a web forum and need a little help from my friends to get it started. Yes it may come as a surprise to some, but I do have friends. Well, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it! I named the forum as "Are You Forum or Against-um?" because whenever opinions are expressed in forums, folks are either for them or against them; and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Challenge brings out the best in any idea. Please lend a hand and post a suggestion or two about this forum, such as what you'd like or don't like...perhaps even start a thread (post a topic) I'd be mi-------ghty grateful. Doc

Subject:Rotating Dancer
HOW TO MAKE THE DANCER I SHARED BY EMAIL APPEAR TO TURN IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. By closing your eyes then visualizing the change in the rotation of the dancer (in some individuals even the desire for the change is sufficient), the brain will relay through the suprachiasmatic nucleus the reverse of what you previously saw. A lapse of concentration or interest can cause an abrupt change in the appearance of dancer's rotation, returning to your baseline. So all you need to do is close your eyes and picture in your mind the dancer turning in the direction you desire. If you experience difficulty, try the exercise again in about 45 minutes: the brain goes through changes approximately every 45 to 90 minutes. How can you determine when your brain is most creative? I'm glad you asked. Take a sloooow, deep breath and pay attention to which nostril feels cooler. If the air feels cooler in your left nostril during inhalation then the right side of your brain is more active, and you are best prepared to visualize and be creative. If the right nostril feels cooler, the dancer will probably turn clockwise. Incidentally if you naturally wake up at night, you will notice that your left nostril is constricted...plugged up. The direction in which the dancer appears to turn is as much determined by your genetic constitution as it is by your psychological conditioning during the developmental years of life. Personality trait development, diurnal rhythm (photosensitive body clock), and capacity for collaboration between such brain areas as the hippocampus and other semi-plastic cortical regions are major factors involved. Interestingly, the developer of the animated image had the dancer rotate in one direction only, knowing the contrasting image would produce the desired effect. You could take some black art board, cut out pretty much any design, place it vertically on a pin, and then rotate it between the fingers or place it beside a fan in front of a white wall to achieve the effect. In such case, your frontal lobe would then know in what direction the object was actually turning. If you are technically-minded, inclined to look at life through a microscope or telescope (perfectionistic, OCPD trait), able persevere until successful at tasks or highly skilled at performing something that requires attention to detail, the dancer for you will naturally be inclined to appear to rotate anti-clockwise. Conversely, if you are highly imaginative and idealistic (schizotypal trait), genuinely artistic, and with a proclivity for viewing the world through a wide angle lens (more focused on the sum of the parts), the dancer will rotate clockwise. Females, with less damage to the corpus callosum and therefore more inclined to be flexible toward external influence, are more likely to manipulate the direction in which the dancer rotates. Exceptions always exist, but my guess is that there are more financial analysts, engineers, physicists, mathematicians and religious faithful in the Republican Party, while there are more talented, inventive, animated, self-confident and secular humanists in the Democrat party. This immutable difference in formation of the corpus callosum may also account for why women are more likely to change political parties and be duped by mechanics and car salesmen, while men are more likely to be politically rigid and duped by women, best friends, and business partners. Of course none of this commentary is politically correct, even if absolutely factual. And since apologies and differences in thought are never really accepted by champions of "tolerance and diversity," I can only apologize for not offering an apology for the facts. I'd be very interested in what experiences other folks have had when attempting to manipulate the dancer with their brain. If you'd like a copy of the dancer, please let me know; and I'll send you one, but use my regular e-mail address.

Subject:Topic? My thoughts aren't that organized....
Interesting website... I found the subject of auto immune friends and foes interesting... I found the discussion of influencing nail growth more interesting... I'm blessed with nice nails. My wife is oft times jealous. I especially found the flamenco portion of the site interesting. I once tried to train my hand to extend the dorsal portion of my fingers so that picado could be produced with more ease. I never accomplished this... Your post states that Paco no longer assumes this posture. I'm assuming that means that he no longer uses this technique... So I went out onto YouTube world and tried to find some video from 2010 of Paco... It appears that he does still extend the dorsal portion. Check out this video at about the 10:25 minute mark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mm3vmENQMPk I also found this video of GRISHA GORYACHEV who doesn't extent the dorsal portion to the extent that Manolo does in your photo yet he has some of the fastest picado I've seen. Check him out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hBg2hJjEec Know that I'm not trying to debate the best technique to produce fast picado because I have no room to talk. Infact, I agree that extending the dorsal portion of the I and M fingers is very logical... I just couldn't get it down for some reason after much time spent in that position. Therefor, I'm going to work on it the way Grisha is executing it in the above referenced video. By the way, Hermanos Conde guitars are now made by Felipe and Mariano jr. I purchased a Brazilian rosewood 'negra' at the turn of the last millenium... it was very nice, but it wasn't me. What do I play now you ask? Well, I have this cheap 3/4 scale 'classical' guitar that my parents bought for $3 or $4 dollars at some garage sale in the 70's. Well over one thousand times less costly than my previous conde guitar. You say "but it has no golpeador!"... ah but it does... you see when I first took an interest in flamenco... I cut a 1.5" square plastic piece out of an old cassette tape case and taped it to the guitar. I intend to purchase another flamenco someday... this time a blanca with either Cypress or Maple sides.... But first I must refine my picado. This is me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CM57RRL5xKg Feel free to reply at my email address... I would love to hear any advice on developing some decent speed in picado... I know, speed is not the end all, but I'd really like to nail down this Alegrias by Sabicas and I'm just not cutting it. By the way, there is no real alternative to intelligent design. Evolutionary thought is just wishful thinking for those who wish not to be governed by their Creator. But that's just my opinion. Sincerely, Andros Gonzales
